This course is designed to develop postgraduate learners’ academic writing competencies through a self-directed and inquiry-driven learning approach that aligns with heutagogical principles. Learners will actively construct their understanding of academic writing by exploring essential concepts such as paragraph development, essay organization, narrative and descriptive writing, analytical reasoning, synthesis of information, grammar refinement, and scholarly communication practices. Emphasis is placed on learner autonomy, critical reflection, and the practical application of academic conventions, including American Psychological Association (APA) referencing, academic integrity, and ethical source use, to support effective participation in Malaysian higher education contexts.

Through authentic writing tasks, collaborative discussions, workshops, and independent exploration, learners will progressively develop the confidence to plan, draft, critique, revise, and present academic work suited to postgraduate expectations. The course encourages learners to take ownership of their writing journey by identifying personal learning needs, utilizing digital and academic resources, and engaging in reflective improvement practices. By the end of the course, learners will be able to produce coherent, evidence-based academic writing, communicate ideas persuasively in scholarly formats, and demonstrate the adaptability required for lifelong learning and advanced academic or professional research environments.
